Roadway Testing Technician II (RTT)Location:
Atlanta, GA
. WSP’s Engineered Construction team is growing and is looking for a skilled construction engineering inspector with RTT, ACI (or GDOT equivalent), and other relevant certifications. The role involves field inspections and observations for commercial, industrial, and transportation-related construction projects.
- Perform testing on general building sites and facilities.
- Interpret project plans and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Conduct soil density testing using nuclear gauge and sand cone per ASTM and project specifications.
- Sample and test concrete in accordance with ASTM and project specifications.
- Prepare and submit written field reports summarizing daily activities, observations, density calculations, and results.
- Observe proof rolls and undercut operations, perform footing inspections with dynamic cone penetrometer, and inspect rebar.
- Test and work in accordance with company safety policies.
- Monitor work procedures for compliance with project specifications.
- Interact with client representatives (supervisors, foremen, project managers, engineers, etc.) at project sites.
- Analyze or calculate testing data for accuracy, applicability, and reasonableness.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Roadway Testing Technician (RTT) Certification.
- Valid GDOT concrete and/or ACI Field Concrete Testing certifications.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years related experience.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Reliability – must arrive at designated project sites prior to scheduled times.
- Ability to prepare reports and documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of Excel.
- Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required.
- Must pass physical, background check, and maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy.
- 5+ years Construction Materials Testing experience on commercial or transportation construction projects.
- Recent graduate with BS in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- ACI Field Level I certification (concrete sampling and field testing) or equivalent.
- ICC and/or NICET certifications for Concrete, steel, bolting, soil/earthwork, asphalt, wood, fire.
- NACE Coatings inspection certification.
- Troxler or equivalent certification.
- Ability to evaluate soil subgrade prior to fill placement and perform standard soil Proctor and moisture checks.
- Ability to read and understand site grading drawings.
- Other GDOT certifications.
- Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, and routinely lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Clean driving record and capability to be insured for company vehicles.
- Ability to work in variable outside conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
