Job DescriptionAs a Special Process Engineer within the Manufacturing organization, you will spearhead the development and enhancement of automated, high-volume battery welding processes, including Micro-TIG and Laser welding. Your role will be pivotal in improving quality and productivity on the production line by implementing creative solutions and data-driven decisions.
ResponsibilitiesDesign fixtures, jigs, shop aids, and material handling devices to support both current and future production needs.
Develop mechanical designs for automated equipment and testers.
Collaborate with Technicians and Product Design Engineers to establish design requirements.
Manage designs from the conceptual phase through to final delivery on the production floor.
Troubleshoot and repair equipment issues encountered on the production floor.
Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM).
Engage in hands-on build and repair tasks using standard tooling.
Read technical drawings and produce necessary documentation, including work instructions.
Proficiency in 3D CAD Mechanical Design, with a preference for NX;
Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, or Pro/E also considered.Understanding of design for manufacturing, including machining, assembly, and sheet metal processes.
Familiarity with aluminum extrusion framing and 3D printing technology.
Ability to translate technician interactions into practical design requirements.
Competency in safe equipment design with a focus on usability and ergonomics.
Skills & Qualifications
Experience with electrical integration, including wiring and sensor components.
Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up.
PLC troubleshooting skills, especially with niche PLC systems.
Experience in defining acceptance test procedures.
Familiarity with controls cabinets, servo/stepper systems, and sensor selection.
Strong problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset.
Procurement skills, with knowledge of sourcing from various suppliers.
This role offers a single 1st shift with flexible start times between 6:00 and 8:30 AM, typically spanning 8-9 hours per day. The work involves significant hands‑on activities, from design to build and installation. The position requires frequent interaction with technicians, ensuring that designs are safe, usable, and maintainable.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Atlanta, GA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $150000.00/hr.
