Position
Research Engineer (fulltime)
OverviewBinergy Scientific, Inc. () is a top innovator in electrochemistry, energy storage, materials science, and sensors focusing on defense applications. We develop cutting‑edge electrochemical power sources, thermal components, innovative materials, biosensors, and devices for emerging defense applications including munitions, hypersonic vehicles, and other systems. Our work ranges from initial concepts through laboratory demonstration and production of field‑ready prototypes covering TRL 1‑7, as well as prototype manufacturing.
Location: Atlanta, GA (Chamblee) – in‑person/on‑site.
US citizenship is required.
- Electrochemical and other materials development, characterization, and testing.
- Development and testing of advanced energy‑storage systems / electrochemical batteries.
- Mechanical design, characterization, and testing.
- Implementation of existing test methods and processes, investigation of improvements, optimization, experimental validation, and documentation of new or refined designs and performance.
- Generation of innovative ideas and solutions, preparation of compelling grant proposals.
- Preparation of technical reports and presentations.
- Contribution to commercialization efforts and the opportunity to grow and lead a dedicated R&D area.
- PhD in materials science, electrochemistry, chemistry, mechanical engineering, or related engineering disciplines.
- Previous experience with battery or other energy‑storage R&D.
- Experience with mechanical design.
- Development of laboratory test assemblies and automation, experimental setups, data acquisition and data processing systems.
- Work experience at a chemical or material‑science laboratory.
- Hands‑on experience with material testing and characterization including SEM, XRD, XPS, TGA, DSC, and other analytical methods.
- Knowledge of CAD drafting (Solid Works).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
- Project‑management experience and skills.
- Experience training and managing students and interns, and managing laboratory technical personnel to follow laboratory protocols, including safety and waste management.
- Due to the project focus and funding from the Department of Defense, US citizenship is required (no exceptions).
- 5+ years of experience in battery, fuel cell, or supercapacitor industry preferred.
- Experience with scaling‑up technologies.
- Experience with introduction of new manufacturing processes.
- Experience with quality control in industrial manufacturing.
- Experience with defense industry.
