Job Description
Dewberry's Atlanta, GA office is looking for a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer-Commissioning Agent to join our commissioning department as a Deputy Department Manager.
Over the past three years, our Commissioning Team’s backlog has grown by 10X. The team specializes in a wide variety of markets and geographies such as Education, Healthcare, Industrial and Federal projects across the Eastern United States, including Louisiana, Oklahoma, Illinois, New York City, Virginia, Florida, and Alabama. We pride ourselves on strong client relationships and improving the quality of building designs and construction.

In this pivotal role you will develop, lead, and manage a Commissioning team of professionals, execute commissioning services projects, and provide technical and process management support. You will also drive business development to expand our client base. The role offers autonomy and a variety of daily tasks, with responsibilities including inspecting building systems and creating comprehensive testing and closeout documents, and utilizing cutting‑edge software.
Hybrid work is available for this position based on experience.
Responsibilities- Find and execute work, acting as a doer‑seller.
- Support and coordinate with the entire commissioning team to deliver projects and uphold commitments.
- Apply HVAC sequence of operation knowledge, perform design review, and create mechanical system testing procedures.
- Manipulate, adjust, set up, and test HVAC controls systems such as JCI, Trane, Automated Logic, Siemens, etc.; knowledge of multiple control systems is a plus.
- Maintain working knowledge of HVAC chilled water and DX systems—design, operation, and testing of chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, AHUs, RTUs, ERUs, VAVs, exhaust, FCUs, etc.
- Review air and water test‑and‑balance processes and TAB reports and identify issues.
- Visit client facilities to gather data for system testing.
- Create system installation and testing documents.
- Ensure OSHA safety requirements are met and identify deficiencies.
- Apply building codes and make intuitive decisions related to them.
- Read and understand building plans and specifications.
- Work safely around electrical systems up to 600 volts.
- Communicate effectively with all clients, construction trades, and design professionals.
- Demonstrate high aptitude for abstract reasoning, assertiveness, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
- Work flexible hours and in hot or cold environments.
- Climb stairs, ladders, lift trucks, and perform moderate lifting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Travel approximately 50 % of the time.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
- 10+ years of engineering experience.
- Commissioning experience.
- Commissioning process certification preferred or ability to acquire within first six months.
- Business development experience a plus.
- Professional Engineering License a plus or ability to acquire.
- Self‑motivated with highly developed verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
