The RF Drive Test Engineer will perform field-based network testing, analysis, and data collection activities to support network optimization efforts for major telecom operators. This role requires hands‑on experience with X-CAL or similar RF measurement tools and a strong understanding of mobility KPIs, coverage assessments, and troubleshooting wireless performance issues.
📜 DetailedJob Description
As an RF Drive Test Engineer, you will conduct drive testing across designated routes in Atlanta to evaluate network performance, coverage, and quality. You will use X-CAL or equivalent tools for data collection, logging, and real-time analysis, identifying issues such as handover failures, drops, weak spots, or interference. You will collaborate closely with optimization teams to validate parameter changes, verify fixes, and support network improvement initiatives.
The role requires precise equipment setup before each drive session and adherence to strict testing schedules. A valid driving license and field readiness are essential.
- Perform RF drive tests to capture LTE/5G network performance metrics
- Operate X-CAL or similar RF testing software/hardware for data logging and measurements
- Identify coverage gaps, interference patterns, mobility issues, and QoS degradations
- Validate network optimization changes through post‑implementation drive tests
- Generate detailed field observations and findings for optimization teams
- Ensure accurate test equipment setup, calibration, and route readiness
- Maintain punctuality and a methodical testing approach during drive sessions
- Adhere to safety and operational guidelines while performing field work
- Proven experience with RF drive testing in telecom networks
- Practical hands‑on knowledge of X-CAL, TEMS, NEMO, or similar tools
- Strong understanding of RF fundamentals, call flows, mobility KPIs, and layer‑by‑layer analysis
- Ability to identify network issues such as handover failures, poor coverage, interference, or congestion
- Valid driving license (mandatory)
- Good communication skills, teamwork, and attention to detail
- Experience working with operator optimization teams
- Familiarity with 4G/5G parameters and counters
- Ability to troubleshoot RF issues in the field
- Intermediate knowledge of post‑processing tools (Actix, TEMS Discovery, X-CAL Analyzer)
Include recent drive test reports or KPIs you’ve improved—showing real optimization impact (coverage uplift, drop‑rate reduction, handover success improvement) significantly boosts your chances for field engineering roles.
