Job DescriptionCDM Smith is a multi‑discipline engineering and architectural firm. Our firm is responsible for large‑scale water and wastewater plant design, transit facilities, industrial facilities, office space design, federal facilities, facility planning and condition assessment work. As a Project Architect specializing in transit facilities, you will work with a growing collaborative multidisciplinary team of technical experts on challenging projects in the transportation business portfolio, including passenger stations, intermodal transit centers, maintenance and operations facilities, and advisory services.
Responsibilities- Oversee and work with junior staff to plan, program, and formulate building design and prepare design presentation and construction contract documents.
- Develop building design criteria directly with clients. Support preparation of presentation materials and make presentations.
- Lead development and coordination of building design and construction contract documents with architectural and multi‑discipline engineering staff.
- Lead and mentor architects and junior architectural staff on multi‑discipline projects.
- Determine construction materials, technologies and methodologies for detailing.
- Prepare and edit technical specifications.
- Confirm compliance with applicable planning, zoning, and building codes and regulations, including coordination with agencies having jurisdiction.
- Serve as Quality Control and independent reviewer for other architects’ work.
- Lead development of project budgets and schedules, both internal and external. Monitor projects through close‑out.
- Support sales, meet with clients, and serve as a Project Technical Lead for architectural‑driven transit and transportation facility projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
- 8 years of related experience. Must possess RA certification.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
- Subject matter expertise in planning, design, and construction oversight of transit facilities served by rail, light rail, and bus rapid transit.
- Experience in multiple project delivery types including design‑build, design‑bid‑build, construction manager‑at‑risk, etc.
- National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) Certificate for reciprocity.
- Experience signing and sealing project documents.
- Comprehensive technical knowledge and design application knowledge related to transit and transportation facilities.
- Expert knowledge of technologies and methodologies in the use of construction materials.
- Expert knowledge of Building Information Modeling and software, preferably Revit, Navisworks and AutoCAD. Familiarity with rendering software programs.
- Expert knowledge with Bluebeam Revue.
- Expert knowledge of basic business office software (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
