Responsibilities
  • Conduct hands‑on failure analysis to determine root causes of material failures
  • Perform materials characterization and metallurgical analysis using laboratory equipment
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute laboratory testing to support investigations and assessments
  • Conduct field inspections to gather data and evaluate material conditions in real‑world environments
  • Generate written work products, including PowerPoint presentations and detailed technical reports, to document findings and communicate results
  • Effectively present results to both technical and non‑technical clients and staff
  • Manage the day‑to‑day requirements of multiple investigative engagements, maintaining organization and efficiency across projects
Skills and Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field, with a strong emphasis on materials science and engineering
  • Proficient knowledge of materials characterization techniques, such as SEM, EDS, optical microscopy, CT, X‑ray, FTIR, and XRD
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling clear and effective information exchange within the team and with clients
  • Ability to work collaboratively within project teams, demonstrating a strong desire to contribute and support team objectives
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed to support project requirements
  • Desired knowledge includes expertise in metallurgy, fracture mechanics, fractography, and failure analysis
  • Familiarity with materials degradation mechanisms, including corrosion, is also preferred
Compensation

The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities, which will be assessed during the interview process.

At the Associate and Senior Associate level, total compensation includes a base salary, bi‑weekly bonuses for high‑intensity efforts, an annual bonus, and a 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.
