Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Materials Application Engineer is the technical authority for surface engineering solutions within the Triosim organization. This role works at the intersection of materials science, customer application challenges, and commercial development — partnering with customers and field sales to identify and qualify surface solutions for complex industrial problems, including sticking, abrasion, sliding, chemical attack, corrosion, and related failure modes on metal surfaces.

The engineer maintains deep expertise in existing technologies while staying at the cutting edge of materials development and plays a key role in bringing new coating products and application solutions to market. The long-term vision for this position is to develop new coating products and surface solutions to support Triosim's growth in the surface-engineering product category.

Essential Functions
  • Partner with customers and field sales teams to identify, scope, and recommend surface engineering solutions for complex industrial challenges; serve as the technical authority in customer conversations where materials expertise is required to diagnose the problem and win confidence in the solution.
  • Qualify existing surface engineering technologies and evaluate emerging materials relevant to Triosim's product portfolio; bring a rigorous, data-driven methodology to the evaluation and introduction of new materials and application processes.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to develop and optimize efficient, cost-effective material application processes using established equipment; balance technical performance with process economics.
  • Lead market and customer development initiatives as new products are brought to market; work with the site's Product Manager and sales team to build awareness, establish credibility, and develop the pipeline for new surface engineering solutions.
  • Attend, present at, and represent Triosim at technical conferences, industry forums, and professional associations relevant to surface engineering, coatings, and materials science; build the company's technical reputation and market visibility in the specialty.
  • Manage multiple simultaneous projects with discipline and rigor; maintain quality standards and technical accuracy across all active engagements without allowing scope or schedule to compromise the integrity of the work.
  • Make authoritative, data-driven technical decisions within defined scope; operate with confidence and clarity in technical gray areas while knowing when to elevate decisions that require broader organizational input.
  • Train and mentor team members on quality standards, materials application processes, testing methodologies, and best practices; build internal technical capability that outlasts any single individual's knowledge.
  • Monitor and respond to regulatory changes affecting polymers, inorganic materials, coatings, and related product categories; ensure that Triosim's products and processes remain compliant and that the organization is not caught off guard by regulatory shifts.
  • Maintain and expand expertise across the full surface engineering technology landscape: thermal spray, HVOF, plasma spray, hard chrome alternatives, polymer coatings, and related application technologies.
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities, manage technical vendor relationships, and provide informed recommendations on supplier selection and qualification for materials and application process inputs.
  • Document technical findings, qualification results, and application recommendations in a format that is useful to both internal stakeholders and external customers; strong technical writing is a core expectation of this role.
  • Support the New Co site's product line development goals by identifying new application opportunities, potential product extensions, and emerging customer needs that Triosim's surface engineering capability could address.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field — required.
  • 3–7+ years of experience in materials science, surface engineering, coatings, or a closely related industrial field.
  • Hands‑on experience qualifying materials and application processes using industrial coating or surface treatment equipment.
  • Experience working directly with customers or field sales teams in a technical advisory or application engineering capacity.
  • Deep knowledge of surface engineering phenomena: corrosion, abrasion, friction, sticking, and chemical attack on metal surfaces.
  • Proficiency in materials qualification methodologies, testing protocols, and quality standards applicable to industrial surface treatments.
  • Prior experience presenting technical work at industry conferences or professional forums.
  • Familiarity with coatings, surface treatments, or specialty materials used in pulp and paper, mining, food processing, or comparable heavy industrial environments.
  • Experience evaluating and managing technical supplier…
