Job Summary
Generally responsible for performing complete design of less complex civil/structural engineering assignments. With experience at this level, you are expected to assist in the design of larger and more complex civil/structural engineering assignments, working under close supervision.
Responsibilities- Familiarity with and utilization of department design and drafting standards.
- Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.
- Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies as needed to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to engineering tasks.
- Produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take‑offs suitable for the level of the estimate being performed on a project.
- Create detail design calculations and sketches for construction materials associated with the project, organized for efficient checking by others.
- Develop designs with efficient use of construction materials, emphasizing ease of construction and meeting client expectations.
- Check calculations made by other engineers for accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and good engineering practice.
- Assist the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
- Provide sufficient sketches and details necessary for completion of engineering drawings.
- Consult with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure smooth flow of vital information for scheduled project completion.
- Advise senior engineer on design or scope changes that have been identified.
- Review and check vendor and other discipline drawings for civil/structural input.
- Review fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Perform fieldwork necessary to gather field data, check tie‑ins and provide construction support.
- Develop construction specifications.
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university (Structural coursework required for structural engineering positions).
- Engineer in Training (EIT) registration strongly preferred.
- Professional Engineering registration preferred upon eligibility.
- 1+ years of relevant industrial experience in civil/structural engineering.
- Knowledge and application of the International Building Code and associated standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.).
- Developing expertise with civil/structural analysis software, including operating and interpreting results.
- Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD or Microstation or both.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Virtual team skills and ability to provide interoffice execution support with supervision.
Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
