The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to join our Southeast regional team, with flexibility to be based in Atlanta, GA, Cocoa, FL, Jacksonville, FL, or work remotely within the Southeast United States.
What Sets This Role Apart- Supporting Gwinnett County, Georgia on forward‑looking stormwater initiatives that advance flood resilience, water supply resiliency, and environmental performance through stormwater manual development, BMP monitoring guidance, ordinance review and revision, BMP construction inspection training, and the design of demonstration projects, stream restoration, wetland enhancement, and green stormwater infrastructure.
- Leading water resources engineering design and permitting efforts for multiple Florida counties, including countywide stormwater master planning, flood modeling, engineering design, construction plans and specifications, permit applications, and support for coastal and inland wetland restoration and habitat enhancement projects.
- Providing low‑impact development and green stormwater infrastructure planning, along with watershed management and on‑call stormwater services for municipalities throughout the Southeast.
- Supporting state agencies and counties on dam safety projects that range from visual dam inspections and detailed hydrologic and hydraulic modeling to safety and integrity evaluations, rehabilitation design, and emergency action planning.
We are seeking a Water Resources Engineer to join our interdisciplinary Southeast team, which specializes in planning, engineering, and design solutions for projects focused on green stormwater infrastructure, water quality and quantity, dam assessments and rehabilitation design, and community resiliency. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- take ownership of key technical tasks and project deliverables;
- contribute to complex, high‑visibility projects;
- collaborate with experienced engineers and planners;
- expand your technical depth, and
- grow into increased leadership and client‑facing responsibility.
- Lead or support water resources infrastructure projects, including green stormwater infrastructure, low impact development, and dam assessments and rehabilitation design.
- Develop technical designs and prepare construction and bid documents, including plans, specifications, and cost‑benefit analyses.
- Analyze water quality and watershed data using GIS and statistical methods, creating detailed charts, maps, and reports to communicate findings.
- Coordinate with internal team members and external stakeholders to ensure high‑quality deliverables through effective quality control and assurance processes.
- Provide technical guidance and informal mentoring to junior engineers, designers, and interns.
- Participate in business development efforts, including client relationship building, proposal development, and identification of new opportunities.
- Prepare memos, technical reports, presentations, and other project documentation in support of planning, design, and permitting efforts.
- Contribute to project execution with increasing ownership, accountability, and technical leadership over time.
- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or civil engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant water resources engineering experience, with a strong foundation in stormwater design and watershed management.
- An active Professional Engineer (PE) certification in Georgia or Florida (or the ability to gain licensure within six months of hire).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil3D, and ArcGIS, along with experience using modeling software such as Storm Wise (formerly ICPR), PCSWMM, and HEC‑RAS.
- Proven analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through education and professional experience.
- Experience preparing and delivering client presentations, with a focus on municipal or other public‑sector clients.
- Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, and an eagerness to learn additional design and analysis software as needed.
- Master's degree in civil engineering or environmental engineering.
