Role Overview

An opportunity is available for an Environmental Specialist responsible for overseeing environmental permitting and compliance for water programs. This role involves working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure adherence to environmental regulations, minimize environmental impacts, and promote sustainable practices. The position requires a working knowledge of construction stormwater Best Management Practices and erosion and sedimentation controls.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee environmental permitting and compliance for water programs.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, particularly regarding water quality, stormwater, and erosion and sedimentation controls.
  • Conduct environmental audits and assessments to identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Apply knowledge of construction stormwater Best Management Practices.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3-7 years of experience in environmental permitting and compliance. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permitting processes. Experience with the federal Clean Water Act, the Georgia Water Quality Act, Georgia’s NPDES Storm Water Discharge General Permits, and the Georgia Erosion & Sedimentation Act.
  • Skills: Analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission certification as an inspector, design professional, or plan reviewer.
Work Environment

This is an onsite position located in Atlanta. The work schedule is Monday through Thursday in the office or on a client site, with the potential for remote work on Fridays. The role typically involves 10‑25% travel, which may be higher on occasion.

Compensation

The pay rate for this position is between $24.00 and $28.00 per hour.
