Grid Block has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer. In this position you will work directly with the research & development group and lead the design and improvement of mechanical enclosures, cable management systems and thermal management solutions for Grid Block’s product suite. We are looking for an innovator and leader who will help shape the cutting‑edge mechanical development Senior Mechanical Engineer needs to be agile, professional, and comfortable in a rapidly changing environment.

Include but are not limited to:
- Lead the mechanical design of new products and maintain all relevant CAD data and design documentation as part of the product development cycle
- Coordinate with the hardware and system engineering team to meet design targets and product functionalities through mechanical design features
- Translate the industrial design vision into a robust, rugged, and reliable mechanical construction
- Design, generate and review mechanical engineering drawings, tolerance analysis, wiring diagrams, assembly instructions, procedures and other data pertaining to manufacturing processes prior to production to ensure quality and meet manufacturing cost targets
- Interface with contract manufacturers and partners to ensure design for manufacturability and cost optimization
- Oversee the machine shop and the rapid prototyping of components, modules, sub‑assemblies to support product development
- Travel 5-10% of the time
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (preferred)
- 10+ years of relevant experience in the development of mechanical designs for electrical power products, outdoor energy conversion systems, battery energy storage system, and electric vehicle charging gear designed to UL and CE standards
- Experience with outdoor mechanical enclosure design and thermal management techniques for power conversion
- Experience with manufacturing and production processes, design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA)
- Hands on experience in prototyping and building components, sub‑assemblies and mechanical parts using shop tools including 3D printers, lathes, band saws, laser cutters, water jets, wire EDM etc.
- Experience securing UL/CE certification for high power energy conversion and energy storage systems (pertaining to mechanical design requirements and tests)
- Experience with Solidworks or equivalent CAD modelling software
- Expertise in sheet metal work, and manufacturing techniques including additive manufacturing, die stamping, die casting, extruding, machining, etc.
- Highly skilled in 3D CAD design and tolerance analysis
- Track record of translating concepts into drawings, CAD models and eventually prototypes, moving from ideation to proof of concept and successful manufactured products
- Strong design skills for outdoor/harsh environments, IP‑5x ratings, and UL/CE standards (incl. but not limited to UL1741, UL9540)
- Deep understanding of materials, their properties and uses in manufacturing processes
- Basic understanding of electrical/electronic systems and hardware is a plus
- Work in a dynamic, diverse, multicultural, and cross‑functional team
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment
