Estimator, Engineering, Civil Engineering

Estimator will work with the Preconstruction team and Director of Preconstruction to prepare estimates and proposals for Clients. They will assist in sending out bid invitations, calling vendors and subcontractors, performing quantity surveys, and assist with preparing Request for Qualifications and Request for Proposals.

One (1) to five (5) years of experience in the construction industry in a role of Project Engineer or Field Engineer. Although not required, a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or similar discipline of study would be beneficial. Must possess a desire for learning computer programs that will enhance the performance of their job.

• Review bid documents for important information, to include, required site visits, RFI ‘s due dates, schedule requirements, bid dates, and required items to be submitted with bids and/or proposals.
• Review proposal specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work, deadlines, and required contents of estimate.
• Send out bid documents for print and delivery.
• Call on vendors and subcontractors to ensure sufficient coverage in all the scope of work packages.
• Create and manage project-specific scopes, RFI’s, drawing coordination, conflict resolutions, and changes.
• Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, quality, or available materials.
• Investigate value engineering options.
• Review terms, conditions, and exclusions of subcontractor and vendor quotes and serve as liaison with subcontractors and vendors during the bidding process.
• Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
• Determine schedule, milestones, and sequence of work.
• Participate in project meetings, such as invitations to bid, site‑walks, proposal reviews, hand‑off meetings, and post‑mortems.
• Able to communicate effectively with individuals and/or groups, teams, Clients, design professionals, and all involved in the project.
• Able to draft and maintain project bid documents, including assumptions and clarifications, RFI logs, Change logs, Project History, etc.
• Able to maintain relationships to ensure needs are met and problems/conflicts are resolved.
• Develop, nurture, and enhance SG’s reputation and relationships with past and current Clients, design professionals, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors. Promote the growth and development of Client, design professionals, and subcontractor relationships.

• Work with the Project Manager, Superintendent, and Company Safety Manager to develop, implement, maintain, and enforce the Company’s Safety Program and culture.
• Exhibit personal behavior that demonstrates commitment to returning all workers home safely each and every day.

• Preferred achievement of LEED AP.
• Possess an OSHA 30 Hour certification.
