Role overview:
The Electrical Project Manager – Data Center Construction will oversee the General Contractor’s construction activities from the inception of a project through completion, focusing on schedule reporting, governance, and quality assurance for large‑scale, mission‑critical data center work.
- Effectively manage and collaborate with project stakeholders.
- Communicate across the internal team to ensure efficiency and consistent delivery to the client.
- Analyze, track, and manage critical milestone activities to avoid schedule slip.
- Verify that effective project governance, processes, and systems are utilized.
- Ensure application of best practice on all projects.
- Produce formal project status reports and other reports as required.
- Monitor the progress of multiple construction projects simultaneously to ensure that the approved design standards are applied correctly.
- Manage the interface between all suppliers through monthly trackers and weekly reviews.
- Manage the flow of project information between the project team through regular meetings and written communications.
- Forecast and update key project milestones.
- Manage and monitor local design teams in accordance with commission criteria.
- Provide technical support to owners, architects, general contractors, and regional stakeholders.
- Rapidly respond to RFIs from the field.
- Provide expertise for cost control, value engineering, and constructability guidance where required.
- Independently review status reports, drawing submittals, timelines, and costs from architects, contractors, and suppliers.
- Assist in developing excellent working relationships with clients to maximize new opportunities.
- Offer strategic advice to project teams on approaches to achieve client and business objectives.
- Manage knowledge capture to ensure key information and learnings are retained.
- Identify ways to improve internal systems and processes.
- Adhere to SOX control responsibilities where applicable.
- Oversee all phases of electrical construction from preconstruction through Level 5 commissioning.
- Oversee design coordination, procurement, installation, and closeout of all mission‑critical systems, emphasizing electrical support.
- Ensure alignment with project goals, client expectations, and quality standards.
- Foster a collaborative, high‑performing team environment.
- Maintain clear communication with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Oversee and report on works status in the field against the General Contractor’s schedule, reporting daily and as required by the owner.
- Review and provide feedback on the GC contract schedule to mitigate and expose opportunities to avoid impacts to the critical path.
- Provide subject‑matter expertise in electrical systems, including substations, transformers, and power distribution.
- Ensure compliance with design specifications, codes, and industry standards during field walks as part of QA/QC responsibilities.
- Identify project risks and report mitigation strategies to the General Contractor and owner.
- Ensure all electrical work meets quality and safety standards.
- Manage method of procedure (MOP) review, feedback, and execution.
- Maintain and contribute to the site progress photo log and weekly reporting.
- Assist in managing the closeout of all CX issues identified in the field with project stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 5+ years of electrical project management experience, ideally in data center construction or with an electrical contractor.
- Experience with substation and power distribution systems preferred.
- Familiarity with MEP design.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in project management tools including Procore, P6, CxAlloy, and other construction project management software.
- Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and construction methodologies.
- Proficiency in the Data Center Commissioning Process (levels 1–5).
- Proficiency managing construction documents such as BODs, specifications, contract drawings, C/D/E’s, equipment submittals, and RFIs.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and related Microsoft Office tools.
