This role leads complex controls troubleshooting, governs technical quality of automation solutions, and supports the reliability, cybersecurity, and lifecycle performance of BMS, EPMS, PLC, SCADA, and OT infrastructure across sites.
You will operate as a senior individual contributor and technical peer to Facilities Operations, Reliability Engineering, Building Automation leadership, and site operations teams. This role is not a people manager, but it is expected to provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and guide critical decisions related to automation architecture, alarms, integration quality, controls reliability, and site supportability. This will be onsite in Saline Township, MI.
ResponsibilitiesServe as a senior technical resource for BMS, EPMS, PLC, SCADA, HMI, and OT network systems supporting mission‑critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
Lead complex troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action development for controls, automation, integration, and OT network issues affecting uptime or operational readiness.
Review and improve control logic, sequences of operation, alarm philosophy, points structures, graphics, integrations, and configuration quality across supported sites.
Provide technical leadership for commissioning, startup, turnover, retrofits, and upgrades involving building automation and OT controls systems.
Support development and enforcement of standards for automation architecture, controls integration, cybersecurity practices, documentation, and operational supportability.
Act as a senior technical interface with vendors, system integrators, commissioning agents, construction teams, and site operations stakeholders.
Guide site teams on automation‑related risk, abnormal operating conditions, recovery planning, and maintainability concerns.
Mentor Building Automation Engineers and related technical staff through coaching, design review, troubleshooting guidance, and best‑practice sharing.
Partner with Reliability Engineering, Facilities Operations, Security, and Engineering teams to improve controls reliability, alarm quality, OT resilience, and data visibility.
Identify systemic issues, recurring failure modes, and opportunities to improve standardization, scalability, and supportability across the portfolio.
Support governance of OT cybersecurity controls, access practices, segmentation approaches, and platform lifecycle considerations in partnership with security teams.
Ideal Candidate Profile6–10 years of experience in building automation, controls engineering, industrial automation, instrumentation, OT systems, or mission‑critical facility controls environments.
Deep experience supporting BMS, EPMS, PLC, SCADA, HMI, industrial networking, and integration of automation systems with mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
Strong working knowledge of data center or other high‑availability environments such as utilities, manufacturing, semiconductor, healthcare, or industrial plants.
Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions without formal people management.
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls, Computer Engineering, Industrial Automation, or related field preferred; equivalent experience also valued.
Skills and CompetenciesAdvanced troubleshooting and systems thinking across controls, OT networking, automation logic, and facility infrastructure interfaces.
