Mechanical Engineer II – Facilities Management Services, Engineering & Utility –
Location:
Atlanta Campus.
Salary Range: $73,400 - $91,700.
The Engineering & Utilities Department seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer II to support campus operations, providing technical expertise in mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, HVAC, ductwork, piping, controls, energy management systems, and fire protection. Responsibilities include reviewing engineering proposals, design drawings and shop drawings; overseeing campus utility consumption and energy/water usage databases; acting as liaison for utility services; monitoring HVAC control system performance;
providing engineering solutions for maintenance teams; managing service contracts; maintaining Energy Star database; implementing metering and monitoring programs; identifying energy‑saving projects; providing technical assistance to project managers; coordinating technical reviews of construction documents; participating in commissioning; analyzing existing facilities and planning upgrades; producing utility consumption reports; and promoting campus sustainability efforts.
- Review engineering proposals, design drawings, specifications, and shop drawings submitted by consultants and contractors.
- Oversee campus utility consumption, maintain energy intensity and water usage database, and act as liaison for utility services.
- Monitor HVAC control system operational effectiveness and advise maintenance team for optimal building operations.
- Provide engineering solutions for maintenance teams; assist with specifications, sketches, scope of work for minor maintenance and mechanical system upgrades.
- Oversee all department service contracts and maintain Energy Star database.
- Implement metering and monitoring program for campus facilities and identify energy‑saving projects.
- Assist DCS and Renovation Department project managers in evaluating energy efficiency and sustainable design for capital construction projects.
- Coordinate technical reviews of construction project documents – performance, site‑specific engineering analysis of integrated building energy systems, passive design techniques, central plant, HVAC, and laboratory control systems.
- Participate in system commissioning to ensure proper startup, testing, and performance compliance.
- Analyze facility conditions to identify mechanical and lighting upgrade projects; prioritize deferred maintenance items.
- Create and maintain a facilities condition report database and produce quarterly and yearly utility consumption reports to VP of Finance and Administration and Board of Regents.
- Promote campus sustainability efforts and provide data on energy and utility consumption improvement.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology and four years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of construction industry standards and codes for construction and engineering practice.
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, database programs.
- Ability to work in confined areas such as tunnels and pits.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle stressful situations.
- Ability to supervise and direct work of others.
- Ability to plan work to avoid delays and wasted man‑hours.
