How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)
As a Flight Safety Data Science Co‑op, you will support Delta’s Safety Management System (SMS) by monitoring flight‑risk data and executing Flight Operations Safety Risk Assessments. You will conduct research, prepare and perform analyses using flight data, pilot reports, fatigue reports, damage or injury data, and additional operational safety data. You will familiarize yourself with frontline work groups, especially pilots, and collaborate with Flight Safety, Corporate Safety, and Flight Operations teams to advance safety initiatives.
Additional responsibilities include accident and incident investigations, Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA), Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), Pilot Fatigue Risk Management, and Safety Promotion. You may also represent Delta Flight Safety at internal and external safety meetings, communicating safety insights and strengthening safety culture.
What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)- Must be enrolled as a full‑time student in an undergraduate program at a 4‑year institution.
- At least a 3.0 GPA on a 4‑point scale.
- Available to work full‑time for three alternating semesters:
Fall 2026, Summer 2027, and Spring 2028. - Must be able to work onsite in Atlanta, GA, for the duration of the Co‑op.
- Student cannot take any courses and work as a Co‑op/Intern simultaneously; this may delay graduation by 1‑2 semesters.
- Co‑op does not guarantee a full‑time position after graduation; the role is intended to provide educational and professional experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Project management and personal management skills.
- Consistently prioritize safety and security of self, others, and personal data.
- Embrace diverse people, thinking, and styles.
- Possess a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
- At least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the United States.
- Degree with a specialization in Aviation.
- Valid passport or ability to travel for company business up to 20 %.
- Flight experience or experience with analytics or data science.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office apps, especially Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Highly motivated with a passion for learning and safety.
