Position Summary
The Environmental Junior Estimator supports the estimating team by preparing cost estimates, reviewing bid documents, gathering subcontractor and vendor pricing, and assisting with proposal development for environmental remediation, construction, demolition, waste management, and related field services projects. This entry-level to early-career position works under the direction of an Estimator and/or Chief Estimator. The ideal candidate will work in the Atlanta office and will be detail-oriented, eager to learn, and interested in building a career in environmental estimating and project support.
EssentialDuties / Functions of Position
- Review project plans, specifications, scopes of work, drawings, and bid documents.
- Assist in preparing quantity takeoffs for labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, disposal, transportation, and other project costs.
- Request and track quotes from subcontractors, vendors, laboratories, waste facilities, and disposal sites.
- Help develop cost estimates for environmental remediation, excavation, soil handling, groundwater treatment, asbestos or lead abatement, demolition, and hazardous/non-hazardous waste projects.
- Maintain estimating spreadsheets, bid logs, pricing databases, and historical cost records.
- Support preparation of bid packages, proposals, schedules, and clarifications.
- Coordinate with project managers, field staff, safety personnel, and procurement to confirm production rates, means and methods, and project requirements.
- Assist with site walks, pre-bid meetings, and field assessments as needed.
- Identify potential risks, exclusions, assumptions, and cost impacts during the estimating process.
- Ensure estimates reflect applicable environmental, health and safety, disposal, transportation, and regulatory requirements.
- Help organize bid documents and meet proposal deadlines.
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in environmental science, construction management, engineering, geology, or a related field preferred; equivalent related experience may be considered.
- 0-3 years of experience in estimating, environmental services, construction, remediation, demolition, or field operations.
- Familiarity with environmental remediation, waste handling, construction drawings, or regulatory compliance helpful.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, drawings, and scopes of work.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, time management, and follow-through.
- Good communication skills for working with vendors, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with Bluebeam, Plan Swift or similar takeoff software, estimating databases, PDF markup tools, and Microsoft Project or other scheduling tools preferred.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification preferred, or ability to obtain.
- Primarily office-based with occasional site visits.
- May require walking active construction or remediation sites.
- May require use of PPE during site visits.
- Some travel may be required for pre-bid meetings or site walks.
