Your Job
Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Process Control Engineer to join the Corrugated Controls team within the Process Control Center of Excellence.
This corporate role supports corrugated operations across multiple manufacturing sites by providing hands‑on controls engineering focused on improving line performance, stability, and reliability. The engineer will work closely with mill teams to optimize product flow, reduce unnecessary operator intervention, and support sustainable performance improvements over time.
This position is location‑flexible (home‑based within the U.S.) with regular travel to manufacturing facilities.
Travel is required up to 50%, depending on site needs, outages, commissioning activity, and optimization efforts.
What You Will Do- Support controls‑focused optimization efforts to improve product flow, stability, and throughput on corrugated assets
- Read, modify, test, and validate PLC and HMI control strategies to improve line behavior and reduce operator intervention (e.g., accumulation and back pressure control, sequencing and per missives, speed coordination, fault handling, and recovery after stops)
- Partner with site Operations, Process Control, IT, and Electrical & Instrumentation teams to identify improvement opportunities, develop test plans, and execute structured trials in production environments
- Support startup and commissioning of new or upgraded equipment to ensure safe operation and effective handoff to site teams
- Develop clear documentation and standard approaches so successful control improvements can be sustained and replicated across sites
- Participate in troubleshooting, commissioning, and optimization activities while building controls capability with site engineers and technicians
- Hands‑on experience supporting industrial control systems in a manufacturing environment
- Experience troubleshooting, configuring, and modifying Allen Bradley and/or Siemens PLC and HMI systems
- Experience implementing and validating control changes in live production environments in collaboration with operations and maintenance teams
- Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including control panels, field devices, and industrial power distribution
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% to support site needs
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operations, maintenance, and engineering partners
- Associate's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience will also be considered
- Experience supporting corrugated operations, including corrugators, flexo folder gluers, rotary die cutters, and related material handling equipment
- Understanding of converting line control behavior such as accumulation/back pressure, stop/start logic, sequencing and permissive, speed coordination, and fault recovery
- Experience with VFDs, servo or motion systems, and industrial networks
- Exposure to machine safety systems, including safety PLCs, interlocks, guarding, and functional safety concepts
- Experience working with legacy equipment
- Ability to document control improvements clearly so others can maintain and apply them consistently
- Interest in mentoring or supporting less experienced engineers or technicians through troubleshooting and commissioning activities
