Lead BAS Controls Engineer

Edison Smart is actively seeking a Senior Building Automation Systems (BAS) Engineer to join our client's growing team in Atlanta, Georgia.

This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned BAS professional currently working in a Senior Design Engineer, Controls Engineer, Systems Engineer, or BAS Program role who is looking to take the next step into a leadership and management-focused role.

You will remain technically involved while gaining exposure to project leadership, team mentorship, customer engagement, and operational responsibilities, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to progress into engineering management.

• Provide technical leadership for Building Automation System (BAS) projects from design through commission
• Support and mentor a team of engineers, programmers, and field technicians
• Review and approve control system designs, sequences of operation, graphics, and programming deliverables
• Assist with project planning, resource allocation, and engineering execution
• Collaborate with customers, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders throughout project delivery
• Troubleshoot complex controls and integration challenges
• Support commissioning activities and ensure systems perform according to design intent
• Establish and maintain engineering best practices, standards, and quality procedures
• Participate in customer meetings and provide technical expertise during project discussions
• Contribute to the growth and development of the engineering team

• 5+ years of experience in Building Automation Systems, HVAC Controls, or Smart Building Technology
• Previous experience in a Senior Design Engineer, Controls Engineer, Systems Engineer, or BAS Programmer role
• Strong understanding of HVAC systems, controls sequences, system integration, and building operations
• Familiarity with platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Distech, Alerton, or similar
• Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, and IP-based building automation networks
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Desire to move into a leadership and people-management career

• Niagara Certification or manufacturer-specific controls certification
• Experience leading project teams, mentoring junior engineers, or acting as a technical lead
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Building Automation, or a related technical discipline
• Experience with healthcare, higher education, data center, pharmaceutical, or large commercial projects
• Exposure to energy management, analytics, and smart building technology
