Overview

Biomechanics Associate (Ph.D.) – Atlanta, GA. In this role, you will work as part of an interdisciplinary team and support senior consultants to execute biomechanics consulting projects related to analysis of human injury from real-world and simulated events. You will analyze the human body's response to accelerations, forces, and bending moments, assess conditions related to injury occurrences, and evaluate whether injuries could have been mitigated.

Many projects are fast-moving and require a motivated, detail-oriented thinker who can synthesize information from diverse sources for stakeholders.

What you will do
  • Review and summarize technical and non-technical materials to identify key facts and information (e.g., police reports, medical/autopsy records, legal pleadings, expert reports, deposition testimony, photographs, vehicle specifications, design drawings, and other documentation).
  • Research and review relevant scientific journals, publications, and test data.
  • Analyze and synthesize technical biomechanical information involving kinematics, dynamics, mechanisms of injury, and human tolerance.
  • Communicate findings through presentations and written reports, including reviewing others’ work with attention to factual, technical, and editorial detail.
  • Synthesize technical information into formats suitable for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Review sensitive projects involving confidential material and/or documentation of severe injuries in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Manage projects with effective cost control, track progress and budgets, and interact with stakeholders.
  • Assist in conducting research, publish reports and papers, and present findings at meetings and conferences.
  • Participate in the Biomechanics Practice and help market the group’s technical capabilities to clients and the scientific community.
Qualifications and skills
  • Ph.D. in Biomechanics, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong science communication and critical-analysis skills.
  • Outstanding written communication and attention to detail.
  • Experience presenting complex information to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Hands-on experience evaluating human tissue biomechanics with laboratory or computational methods; knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of computational modeling for biomechanical analysis is valued but not required.
  • Interest in obtaining a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Effective leadership and the ability to interact with a wide range of professionals inside and outside Exponent.

Applicants are encouraged to submit a CV with publications (including those in review or pending). Include publications beyond one page if needed.
