We are currently searching for an experienced Roadway Engineer to support our Southeast Region located in Atlanta, GA or Forsyth County, GA.
To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering.
What you’ll be doing :- Engineering design including geometric design of highways and streets, drainage design (hydrology and hydraulics) a plus
- Prepare construction plans and project displays
- Assist in roadway plan set design & production including roadway alignments, cross-sections, drainage, maintenance of traffic and erosion and sedimentation control
- Assist in preparing cost estimates, reports, and technical memos
- Assist in the review and approval of roadway plans and reports
- Prepare memorandums summarize analysis work
- Manage and mentor junior staff and support staff
- Assist in Project Management tasks and Client relations
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- 5– 10 years of experience
- GA PE License required
- Knowledge of fundamental transportation standards
- Familiarity with state and FHWA design standards, guidelines, and policies
- Proficient in the use of MS Office tools such as Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
- Experience with computer programs such as Micro Station,ArcGIS, InRoads, various CAD, Open Roads Designer
- Self-motivated to meet individual goals and maintain accountability in a team environment
- Able to maintain project schedules, which may require occasional extended hours and overnight travel
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- General interpersonal skills including active listening, teamwork, responsibility, dependability, leadership, motivation, flexibility, and patience
- GDOT or local government design experience preferred
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
- Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
- Previous internship/coop experience in transportation and municipal design
- Previous GDOT experience desired but not required
