We are seeking an experienced and driven Lead Mechanical Design Engineer with strong expertise in sheet metal design. This role combines technical leadership and hands-on design responsibilities, requiring a professional who can lead a team of engineers while also contributing as an individual contributor to high-impact design projects.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and mentor a team of mechanical design engineers, guiding them on best practices in sheet metal design and development.
- Manage workload allocation, project planning, and technical reviews for the team.
- Foster a collaborative engineering culture focused on innovation, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct and drive design reviews, DFMEAs, and cross-functional technical discussions.
- Design and develop complex sheet metal components, assemblies, and enclosures using CAD software (Solid Works, CATIA, CREO, NX).
- Create 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, and detailed BOMs.
- Ensure all designs meet functional requirements, manufacturability, cost targets, and compliance standards.
- Work closely with manufacturing, sourcing, and quality teams to validate design feasibility and resolve technical challenges.
- Perform tolerance stack-ups, GD&T, and participate in prototype and production validation.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical product design, with a strong emphasis on sheet metal components.
- Proven experience working as both a technical leader and hands-on designer.
- Proficiency in CAD tools (Solid Works, CATIA V5, Creo).
- Deep understanding of sheet metal processes: cutting, bending, forming, welding, and surface treatments.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, DFMEA, tolerance analysis, and material selection.
- Excellent communication, team leadership, and project management skills.
- Background in automotive, aerospace, or industrial equipment design.
- Exposure to mixed-material designs (e.g., sheet metal + plastics).
- Familiarity with PLM systems such as Teamcenter, Windchill, or Enovia.
