Project Engineer – Turtle Lake, WI

Job Purpose

To provide injection molding processing and engineering expertise for a range of product and materials and to identify and implement innovative engineering technologies that deliver highly efficient and cost‑effective processes and equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Develops and procures plastic injection tooling for new and existing customer part designs.
  • Manages the development and implementation process of Sanmina’s products and services, involving departmental and cross‑functional teams, focused on the delivery of new or existing products.
  • Plans and directs resource schedules and budgets, at times in excess of $500,000.
  • Manages several projects simultaneously, from initiation to delivery and through the end of a product’s lifecycle.
  • Organizes all interdepartmental activities, ensuring completion of projects on schedule and within budget constraints.
  • Drives positive change within the organization by implementing process enhancements and continuous improvements.
  • Works closely with customers on part design for manufacturability for plastic injection molding, ensuring the product can be processed once the tool is built and understanding customer specifications and expectations.
  • Quotes new plastic injection tooling, coordinates tooling vendor selection, manages the selected tool vendor through the entire build process, places tooling purchase orders, develops project plans, provides customers with delivery schedules, Gantt charts, and other desired information, and maintains on‑time delivery of tooling.
  • Leads internal teams and drives timely completion of projects within quoted budgets by maintaining internal checklists and timelines; schedules project review meetings to discuss project needs and expectations.
  • Coordinates tool design reviews, material selection and procurement, secondary tooling design, tool sampling, FAIRs, PPAPs, and part approvals.
  • Provides document control for all pertinent new product information for initial setup of parts in the system.
  • Creates new product introductions, initiates engineering change orders, and ensures the process runs as quoted.
  • Quotes and manages tooling revisions and repairs.
  • Collaborates with cost estimating and cross‑functional teams to estimate cycle times, process flows, part pricing, and similar metrics.
  • Ensures project timelines are met by coordinating schedules and data across other departments and vendors.
  • Serves as engineering liaison between the plant and the customer throughout the entire production life of a product.
  • Travels as necessary to support customers; international travel is possible.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Education and Experience
  • B.S. degree in Engineering with 2–5 years of project engineering experience, or 5–10 years of experience as a tooling engineer; preferably with plastic injection molding experience.
