The Traffic Signals Project Engineer is responsible for planning, analyzing, designing and optimizing traffic signal systems to improve safety, mobility and operational efficiency across roadway networks.

Responsibilities
  • Planning and distribution of discipline‑specific work, ensuring schedule and budget adherence.
  • Assist in marketing duties including proposal generation.
  • Support development of scope of work and level of effort for projects.
  • Oversee completeness and accuracy of project team work within the technical discipline; mentor team toward project objectives.
  • Coordinate technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines on multi‑discipline projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Prepare traffic signal designs, including signal layouts, phasing plans, detection systems, and supporting construction documents with applicable standards and guidelines.
  • Process, manage, and interpret large transportation datasets to support data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Conduct road traffic analysis, safety analysis, travel time studies, simulation models and evaluate intersection performance for operational improvements.
  • Produce and modify design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects.
  • Research, development, calculations, design and delivery using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software.
  • Mentor, train and review work of junior engineer staff as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
  • PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience.
Preferred qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification (depending on discipline).
