We are seeking an experienced Distribution Planning Engineer to support the planning, analysis, and long‑term reliability of the electric distribution system throughout Georgia. This role is responsible for evaluating system performance, developing capacity and reliability improvements, and creating engineering solutions to support load growth, distributed energy resources (DER), and grid modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate has extensive utility distribution planning experience and excels at collaborating with engineering, operations, project management, and field teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform distribution system planning studies, including load flow, voltage regulation, thermal loading, fault current, and contingency analyses.
  • Develop short- and long-term distribution system expansion plans to improve reliability, capacity, and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate customer load growth, new service requests, and economic development projects to determine required infrastructure upgrades.
  • Analyze system performance using engineering software and recommend circuit improvements, feeder reconfigurations, voltage optimization, and equipment upgrades.
  • Support integration of distributed energy resources (DER), battery energy storage systems (BESS), electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, and renewable energy projects.
  • Collaborate with distribution operations, protection engineering, substation engineering, transmission planning, and project management teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Review reliability metrics (SAIDI, SAIFI, CAIDI) and identify opportunities to improve system performance.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable utility standards, NESC requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in electric utility distribution planning, distribution engineering, or power system analysis.
  • Strong understanding of electric distribution system design, planning principles, and utility operations.
  • Experience performing distribution system studies using software such as CYME, Synergi Electric, ETAP, PSCAD, or ASPEN
    .
  • Knowledge of load forecasting, voltage analysis, protection coordination, feeder modeling, and system reliability planning.
  • Familiarity with distributed energy resources (DER), smart grid technologies, and utility modernization initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain one.
  • Experience supporting Georgia electric utilities or consulting projects within the Southeast.
  • Familiarity with Georgia utility planning standards, distribution automation, and GIS/OMS/SCADA systems.
  • Experience developing capital improvement plans and supporting regulatory or rate case initiatives.
