Substation Physical Design Engineer

Asplundh Engineering Services (AES) is hiring Substation Physical Design Engineers for our Southeast offices. The role involves working on client projects for investor-owned and municipal utilities, independent power producers, renewable energy, and large commercial and industrial customers.

Responsibilities include executing substation physical projects, reading and designing substation physical drawings (one-line, three-line, plan-section, foundation, grounding), performing QA/QC checks, creating and checking bills of material, attending site visits, and complying with quality control and safe work practices while maintaining project scope, schedule, and budget. The engineer will collaborate with engineers, designers, and CAD technicians, and implement client standards.

Required

Education and Experience
  • Entry-Leve1: associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field plus three or more years of related substation physical design experience. Must be local to one of our offices for training; not fully remote.
  • Mid/Senior-Level: associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field plus six or more years of related substation physical design experience.
  • Senior/Lead-Level: associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field plus ten or more years of related substation physical design experience.
  • Experience with grounding studies/lightning protection, substation design (medium, high, extra-high voltage), IEEE/ANSI standards, bus calculation.
  • Proficiency with WinIGS, CDEGS, Micro Station, AutoCAD, Revit, SEL or GE relays, Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, excellent communication, collaboration, self-starter, willingness to travel.
You may also have
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Master’s degree in related field.
