Position: Junior Design and Manufacturing Engineer (Part-Time)

Rune Aero is an early stage startup building the next generation of autonomous, efficient, and purpose-built aircraft for the regional air cargo market.

Position Overview

We’re looking for a motivated engineer or engineering student to join our design and manufacturing team on a part-time basis (10-20 hrs/week, schedule mutually agreed). This is a hands‑on role supporting the design, manufacturing, assembly, and integration of our aircraft prototypes. You’ll work directly alongside our engineering team, contributing across the full hardware development lifecycle: from CAD design through fabrication, assembly, and flight‑test preparation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support CAD modeling, detailing, and drawing updates for aircraft parts, fixtures, and tooling
  • Assist with part fabrication, hardware assembly, and system integration in the shop
  • Help design, build, and maintain assembly fixtures, jigs, and manufacturing aids
  • Support fit checks, inspection, and build documentation
  • Work closely with design and manufacturing engineers to turn drawings into build‑ready hardware
  • Document work clearly and flag build or design issues as they come up
Required Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (degree completion not required)
  • Working knowledge of an industry‑standard CAD tool (Solid Edge, CATIA, NX, Solid Works, or similar)
  • Aptitude for manufacturing, fabrication, and hands‑on assembly of physical hardware
  • Strong attention to detail and a practical, hands‑on problem‑solving mindset
  • Comfortable working independently and communicating clearly within a small team
  • Available 10‑20 hours/week, schedule to be mutually agreed
  • Able to commute regularly to our Atlanta office
Bonus Qualifications
  • Hands‑on shop experience: machining, composites, 3D printing, sheet metal, or similar fabrication work
  • Experience with student build teams (e.g., Formula SAE, AIAA Design/Build/Fly, rocketry, or similar)
  • Coursework or project experience in manufacturing processes, GD&T, or tolerance stack‑up
  • Passion for next‑gen aviation technologies and startup environments

At Rune we strive to provide a total rewards package that attracts, engages and motivates top talent. Compensation is determined based on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
