About the Role:
As the Sr. Lead Structural Engineer, you will serve as the technical and project lead on multi-disciplinary structural projects from concept through completion. You will oversee design, analysis, and coordination activities, ensuring quality, safety, and code compliance while guiding project teams to meet scope, schedule, and budget objectives. Beyond project execution, you will play a key role in client engagement and business development, collaborating with existing and prospective clients to understand project needs, develop proposals, prepare scopes of work and contracts, and support efforts to win new business.
Your leadership will influence strategic decisions, mentor developing engineers, strengthen client partnerships, and contribute to the continued growth of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support business development by contributing to proposals, fee estimates, and project planning for new opportunities.
- Lead structural design and analysis for buildings and related structures, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Oversee and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams, managing scope, schedule, and deliverables across all project phases.
- Review, seal, and take responsible charge of structural calculations, drawings, and specifications.
- Utilize structural analysis and BIM/CAD software (e.g., RISA, RAM SS, ETABS, Enercalc, AutoCAD, Revit) to develop and validate design solutions.
- Interface with clients, architects, contractors, and local authorities to resolve technical issues and maintain strong working relationships.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and quality oversight for junior and mid-level engineers and designers.
- Participate in design reviews, value engineering efforts, and constructability assessments to optimize project outcomes.
Key Requirements:
- 10-15 years of progressive structural engineering experience with a focus on building structures or similar projects.
- Proven experience leading structural design on multi-disciplinary projects from concept through construction.
- Strong proficiency with structural analysis and design software (such as RISA, RAM SS, ETABS, Enercalc) and BIM/CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit).
- Demonstrated project management capability, including planning, scheduling, resource coordination, and budget oversight.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Experience leading inter-disciplinary project teams on complex or large-scale projects.
- Formal project management training or certifications (e.g., PMP or equivalent).
- Established relationships with local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and familiarity with local permitting processes.
- Active involvement in local professional or industry organizations.
- Experience supporting business development, client management, or strategic pursuits.
Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required.
- Advanced degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (M.S.) preferred but not required.
- Ongoing continuing education and professional development in structural engineering and related disciplines strongly valued.
