Electrical Design Engineer I – Power Resiliency
This role provides technical services in support of a Power Resiliency program within a Sustainability and Automation organization. You focus on the planning, design, commissioning, and operational support of electrical infrastructure, backup power systems, and energy resiliency solutions across a large distribution network, with emphasis on AMZL and a combination of NACF and NASC facilities. You support the development of processes, tools, and documentation that enable reliable backup power generation for both planned and unplanned events, while working closely with internal teams, contractors, and utilities.
Responsibilities- Support the planning, design, commissioning, and operational support of electrical infrastructure, backup power systems, and energy resiliency solutions across the distribution network.
- Assist in developing site-specific backup generation implementation plans ("playbooks") for AMZL, NACF, NASC, or combinations of these business units.
- Gather site-specific information for playbooks, including engineering drawings, line diagrams, and technical specifications from internal resources.
- Establish and maintain communication with internal teams, contractors, and utilities to support backup power generation projects.
- Use internal systems to track project progress, create centralized document repositories, and identify gaps during the ramp-up of new backup power systems.
- Maintain active points of contact for sites, contractors, and utilities to ensure timely information flow and coordination.
- Coordinate with site leadership, including Reliability and Maintenance Engineering (RME) and Operations personnel, to schedule visits, secure equipment availability, and obtain access permissions for restricted spaces.
- Support the ramp-up of planned backup power generation processes for AMZL, NACF, NASC, or combined networks, from planning through deployment and operation.
- Develop and steward software systems to manage data, track initiatives and assets, and report issues related to backup power generation and power resiliency.
- Communicate status, risks, and blockers in real time to applicable stakeholders during planning and execution phases.
- Assist in executing power resiliency plans and processes during major events such as peak seasons and severe weather periods.
- Support unplanned backup power generation needs by coordinating efforts to bring generation assets to a site or make onsite backup generation operable.
- Communicate with site personnel, internal stakeholders, contractors, and utilities to address unplanned backup power requirements.
- Coordinate the deployment of staged generation assets as directed by the engagement leadership team.
- Provide administrative support for ongoing process development related to both planned and unplanned power resiliency events.
- Contribute inputs to reporting and tracking software to ensure accurate and timely documentation of power resiliency activities.
- Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for backup power generation and power resiliency processes.
- Utilize internal tools to obtain technical and operational information and to report problems or issues as they arise.
- Work with external vendors to obtain required technical information and documentation for power resiliency initiatives.
- Analyze data to support white paper development and other leadership-focused deliverables that inform executive decision-making.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and utility providers to secure necessary information and permissions for site visits, equipment access, and technical specifications.
- Assist in resolving administrative issues related to requisitions and purchase orders within the scope of power resiliency projects.
- Ensure that all actions involving external entities remain administrative and do not direct unapproved work.
- Operate within defined boundaries by not supervising employees or contractors and by not approving invoices, purchase orders, or financial commitments.
- Respect data security requirements by not accessing customer data or personally identifiable information without explicit security clearance.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electrical engineering principles relevant to electrical infrastructure and backup power systems.
- Experience supporting electrical design activities, including working with engineering drawings, line diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Project management skills to help plan, track, and deliver power resiliency and backup generation initiatives.
- Ability to use internal software systems and tools to track progress, manage data, and maintain documentation repositories.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with internal teams, site leadership, contractors, vendors, and utility providers.
- Ability to collect, organize, and interpret technical and site-specific data for use in playbooks and process documentation.
