Roadway Drainage Engineer

Location:

Texas (Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, or San Antonio)

Experience:

4+ Years

License: PE preferred or ability to obtain within 12-18 months

Overview We are seeking a Roadway Drainage Engineer to support the planning, analysis, and design of drainage systems for transportation infrastructure projects throughout Texas. This individual will work closely with roadway design teams to deliver drainage solutions for TxDOT, municipal, county, and toll agency projects while ensuring compliance with applicable design criteria and permitting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses for roadway, bridge, and transportation projects.
  • Design storm sewer systems, culverts, detention/retention facilities, outfall structures, and open channel improvements.
  • Prepare drainage reports, calculations, drainage area maps, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate drainage design efforts with roadway, bridge, utility, and environmental teams.
  • Support drainage studies for TxDOT PS&E projects and municipal infrastructure improvements.
  • Conduct floodplain assessments and evaluate impacts associated with transportation improvements.
  • Assist with agency coordination, permitting, and client communication throughout project delivery.
  • Review plans and calculations prepared by junior staff and provide technical guidance as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 4+ years of drainage engineering experience focused on transportation projects.
  • Proficiency with HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HY-8, ArcGIS, and/or TxDOT drainage design software.
  • Experience developing drainage reports and performing hydraulic modeling.
  • Familiarity with TxDOT Drainage Manual and roadway design standards.
  • PE license preferred (or EIT progressing toward licensure).
  • Strong communication and project coordination skills.

Preferred Experience

  • TxDOT, county, municipal, or toll roadway project experience.
  • Experience with drainage design for rural and urban roadway corridors.
  • Knowledge of FEMA floodplain requirements and permitting processes.
  • Familiarity with Micro Station, Open Roads Designer, or Civil 3D.
