JOB SUMMARY:

Under minimal supervision, provides expert level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal planning, utilities, surveying, environmental or traffic. May supervise subordinates or serve as a lead worker providing training to lower-level staff.

PRIMARY

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This position will serve as a point of contact and assist in the management of the three state safety design contracts. The State Safety Engineering Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day tasks of the program and safety contracts associated with the State which includes:
  • Coordinates with the consultant teams on the program’s contracts
  • Coordinates with the districts and local agency for safety needs
  • Develops and reviews of traffic engineering studies & concepts reports
  • Reviews and develops safety performance measures
  • Performs and reviews crash and benefit / cost analysis
  • Reviews and approves traffic projections
  • Assist in developing projects that align with SHSP and HSIP goals
  • Coordinates at least 14 road safety audits, (RSA) reports
  • Tracks and implements RSA recommendations per year
  • Develops and reviews documentation for program related training and statewide consistency
  • Manages and tracks budgets and invoices
  • Develops and implements new initiatives and policies as safety countermeasures evolve
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Qualifications.

ENTRY

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of job-related experience; or an Associate degree in a related field and four (4) years of job-related experience; or one (1) year of experience position equivalent.

AGENCY SPECIFIC

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or civil engineering technology from an ABET accredited college or university AND Two years of related experience.
  • Two (2) years of experience in highway/transportation engineering.
  • Two (2) years of experience assisting in the managing or managing transportation programs or projects.
  • Two (2) years of experience preparing or reviewing correspondence and/or technical reports for both oral and written presentations
  • Knowledge of Safety Engineering, Signing/Marking, and signal designs based on GDOT Design Policies.
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering studies and analysis.
  • Knowledge of operational capacity and safety analysis software.
  • Experience with MUTCD and AASHTO Greenbook.
  • Knowledge of calculating appropriate quantities and/or cost estimates associated with safety enhancement projects.
  • Ability to adapt to new and innovative design processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop new insight into situations.
  • Ability to analyze and formulate solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience to work independently of direct supervision and guidance
  • Ability to motivate and promote teamwork.
  • Ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.

AGENCY

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety design requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and train entry level engineers.
  • Demonstrated ability to track and manage budget for a program.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work including balancing resources to manage conflicting deadlines in a manner that achieves all project goals.
  • Ability to define and implement engineering solutions which address engineering deficiencies in transportation infrastructure.
  • Possess strong oral communication skills with the ability to express ideas and facts to groups and individuals.
  • Knowledge of the organizational structure, policies, rules and regulations of the Georgia Department of Transportation.
  • Knowledge of the plan development process (PDP).
  • Experience independently designing and managing the preparation of multiple complete traffic control/safety enhancement projects and coordinating design team activities.
