Position: Technical Manager, Fleet (A330)

How You'll Help Us Keep Climbing (Overview & Key Responsibilities) Responsibilities

The A330 Fleet Technical Manager reports directly to the Lead Technical Manager and plays a critical role in Flight Operations  this role, you will have the following responsibilities (not comprehensive of all tasks):

  • Define, develop, and implement operational procedures for respective Delta aircraft fleet through coordination with fleet leadership, OEMs, vendors, and regulatory agencies
  • Work closely with Delta Fleets, Ops Info Technical Writers, and FAA to revise aircraft and training manuals and write technical/procedural fleet bulletins
  • Work with various Delta divisions to identify necessary aircraft equipage modifications due to regulatory changes, aircraft manufacturer changes, or safety and standardization requirements
  • Serve as Flight Operations expert to review and approve all changes to aircraft Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and Operational Data Manual (ODM)
  • Act as liaison with TOC, OCC, MCC, In‑flight, Corporate Safety and Airport Customer Service personnel on fleet operational/safety issues
  • Serve as Flight Operations point of contact to TOC for EP‑19 development and approvals. Signing Engineering Action Requests, and SCEPTRE signoffs
  • Provide technical expertise/support to Fleet Instructors, Line Check Pilots, and Line Pilots
  • Identify SMS triggers, complete initial steps under SRM (system task analysis), and identify hazards and risk acceptance
  • Evaluation of new and used aircraft as part of aircraft transactions, new aircraft deliveries, and mergers
  • Author and create original source material such as Fleet Bulletins, and newsletter articles
  • Maintain direct contact with airframe / engine OEM and avionics vendors
  • Manage and implement avionics (communications, navigation, & surveillance) modifications
  • Incorporate procedural changes mandated by Airworthiness Directives (ADs)
  • Assist Technical Writers and Publication SMEs throughout the Aircraft Operating Manual
  • Coordinate cabin configuration, Wi‑Fi, and IFE changes
  • Remain line operations familiar by observing domestic and international operations from jumpseat
  • Support Chief Standards Captain and Chief Training Captain to address fleet technical or mechanical problems
  • Respond to Flight Crew Reports and Aviation Safety Action Program reports.
  • Review pilot actions associated with MSI events
  • Interact with Tech Ops Fleet Engineering and Technical Services to address trends or reliability issues
  • Partner with MCC personnel to avoid flight delay or restore the flight schedule when pilot related operational issues occur
What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)
  • Engineering/technical degree or a comparable practical, technical background
  • Airframe & Powerplant certification or FAA pilot certificate is highly desirable
  • Must successfully complete the appropriate ground schools on the assigned aircraft and pass an exam on aircraft systems, limitations, and procedures
  • Must possess excellent communications skills, both written and oral
  • Must be able to read and analyze complex technical diagrams and engineering drawings and create communications to be used in flight operations publications
  • Must possess working knowledge of advanced technologies, including but not limited to, air‑ground datalink techniques, satellite communications and navigation, flight management systems, and the International Civil Aviation Organization Future Air Navigation plan
  • Must be physically capable of accessing aircraft interiors and flying as an observer in the cockpit
  • Should be a self‑starter capable of producing high quality work with the ability to follow through on assigned tasks and meet deadlines with minimum supervision
  • Must be willing to occasionally work flexible hours and travel to industry events
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or other technical degree
  • 5 plus years of relevant experience
  • Airbus, Boeing, or avionics experience
