Lead Commissioning Engineer / Team Leader
Job Summary:
BW&A is seeking a skilled and motivated candidate to join our growing sustainability studio, which is committed to optimizing energy performance in the built environment. Your work as a Lead Commissioning Engineer will directly contribute to enhancing energy efficiency and promoting sustainable operating practices, all within a company that supports opportunities for personal growth, career advancement, leadership, and potential ownership.
In addition, in this position the candidate will be expected to market commissioning and other energy related services to current clients and potential clients with the expectation of growing the business unit and building a strong foundation of work.
Qualifications:- 8+ years of experience in commissioning of mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems. Mechanical design experience a plus.
- Professional engineer license, or ability to acquire is a plus.
- Applicable certifications a must: CCP, CxA, BCxP, LEED AP, etc.
- Demonstrated leadership and training of junior team members a plus.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical plans, specifications, sequences of operation, and TAB reports.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
- Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills are a must.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and monitoring equipment for troubleshooting and testing purposes, including electrical multimeter, light intensity meter, infrared scanner, and temperature/humidity meter.
- Proficiency with the following software:
Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Bluebeam Revu, CxAlloy TQ, and Facility Grid. - Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, typically local and regional (nationwide a possibility).
- Market our commissioning and energy services to new and existing clients.
- Manage and train junior team members.
- Lead commissioning projects (HVAC/mechanical, plumbing, electrical systems) from project initiation to closeout, ensuring all systems are thoroughly tested, documented, and perform according to design specifications.
- Collaborate with design and construction teams to integrate commissioning activities seamlessly into project timelines, identifying and addressing potential issues early in the design and construction phases.
- Develop comprehensive commissioning plans, schedules, and reports, and present findings to clients and project stakeholders.
- Review design documents to ensure compliance with commissioning requirements and identify opportunities for system optimization.
- Conduct on-site visits and inspections to verify the installation and functionality of systems, components, and equipment.
- Develop and oversee the execution of comprehensive testing protocols to ensure that all systems meet design requirements and comply with industry standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges related to building systems, controls, and energy efficiency.
- Stay current with industry trends, codes, standards, and best practices related to commissioning, energy efficiency, and sustainable building practices.
- Collaborate closely with project teams, including architects, engineers, contractors, and facility managers, to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Conduct energy audits, inspections, metering deployment, and measurement and verification of energy and demand savings.
- Perform analyses of building energy use, including development of targets, as well as other building sustainability benchmarks.
- Validate building energy performance using sub-metered data to develop calibrated energy simulations.
- Perform surveys of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in existing buildings to assess equipment condition, life expectancy, maintenance quality and budget replacement costs.
