Loan Specialist

The incumbent serves the Senior Loan Technician in the Loan Administration (LA) Value Stream (VS). Serves as a team leader and a source of technical expertise and guidance to Loan Technicians and Assistant Loan Technicians in the LA VS who are involved in monitoring mortgage companies and financial institutions that service loans guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) pursuant to Title 38, United States Code and protecting the interests of the U.S. Government.

Specific duties include:

* Serves as a team leader and a source of technical expertise and guidance to Loan Technicians and Assistant Loan Technicians.

* Provides guidance and training to staff; monitors quality, quantity, and timeliness of work; and assists with reviews and reports.

* Communicates with a variety of individuals (veterans, real estate attorneys, banking industry professionals, etc.) to provide information on the Loan Guaranty program.

* Uses knowledge & skill to apply techniques to obtain & evaluate a borrower's ability (or lack thereof) to reinstate a delinquent loan & to conclude whether a borrower can afford to repay the loan.

* Instructs servicers/holders on VA requirements for servicing delinquent VA loans and procedures.

* Reviews cases for approval and when appropriate, for payment.

* Implements training and process design to improve the quality of work completed.
