Sr. Construction Accountant

OverviewNext 150 Construction, a subsidiary of Gilbane Building Company, is seeking a senior accountant to handle project accounting and financial forecasting for multiple mid‑to‑large projects. The role primarily works in the office but may require travel to project sites for meetings with project teams and subcontractors. You will coordinate with project management, clients and subcontractors, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance.

Responsibilities- Manage contracts, amendments, insurance, bonds, SOV, files and COB policies.
- Conduct timely and accurate reviews of requisitions and lien waivers.
- Create and format project financial forecasts to meet internal team and client reporting needs.
- Lead monthly project forecast meetings and maintain accurate ETCs for labor and expenses.
- Evaluate change management for reporting inconsistencies.
- Ensure timely management of accounts receivable and payables.
- Manage the project financial closeout process.
- Develop and maintain positive professional relationships internally and externally.
- Coach and mentor less experienced team members.
- Review and understand cost proposals.
- Understand and manage various contract types and delivery methods.
- Assist the Accounting Manager or Business Controller with the monthly WIP process.
- Take on additional assignments such as overseeing one accountant.
- Act as an independent accountant during project forecast meetings to mitigate financial risk.
- Supervise interns.

- Experience & Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.
- 6‑10 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Ability to learn construction management and payment management software.
- Knowledge of the overall project execution process including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, schedule, anticipated cost and profitability.
- Knowledge of construction industry insurance products and pricing components.
- Effective communication ability, listening to understand and conveying information clearly.

- Problem‑solving skills with prioritization and implementation of alternatives.

Salary for Albany, NY ranges from $85,000.00 to $ plus benefits and retirement program. Compensation is determined based on location, skills, education, and experience.
