Tax Manager

OrganizationalThis position is a member of the accounting team, reporting to the SVP Controller.
OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled Tax Manager to support both tax accounting and compliance. This role will ensure the Company is compliant with taxing authorities and corporate governance standards, administer tax planning, and support the financial reporting of these areas. Detail‑oriented tax calculations and communications will be key components of this role, with opportunity to expand beyond these areas. Teamwork and cross‑functional collaboration are a must.
This position reports directly to the Controller and offers an opportunity to drive process improvements and enhance operational efficiency.
- Prepare and review tax work papers and supporting memos for the tax provision and compliance (federal and state tax returns), coordinating with external providers to ensure accurate and timely completion.
- Coordinate internal stakeholders (Finance, HR, Legal, etc.) to gather and validate information required for tax filings and reporting.
- Maintain and enhance the internal control framework for tax processes, including documentation of procedures and controls.
- Monitor and manage uncertain tax positions, valuation allowance analysis, and ensure proper documentation for audit support (includes researching and documenting tax positions for tax files).
- Research and support calculation for tax credits (e.g. R&D job credits) and other incentives.
- Oversee process for 1099 reporting, liaising with management and third‑party providers.
- Proactively identify new payroll tax developments and facilitate payroll tax items with HR group.
- Prepare property tax and occupational/entity level tax returns and manage related accrual.
- Oversee the unclaimed property compliance process, including monitoring, reporting, and coordinating with internal teams and external providers to ensure timely filings and adherence to state regulations.
- Manage relationships with tax authorities, including responding to notices and inquiries.
- Support ownership reporting requirements and related communications.
- Drive special projects and tax initiatives as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3-6 years of relevant work experience;
Big 4 experience strongly preferred. - CPA and/or other professional certification preferred.
- Strong tax accounting and reporting knowledge.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to manage external relationships effectively.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, data analysis) and interest in leveraging technology for process improvements.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex data and workflows.
- Project management aptitude and ability to lead cross‑function initiatives.
Our compensation structure is designed to reflect the cost of labor across various U.S. geographic markets. The base salary for this role ranges from $115,000 per year to $135,000 per year.
