About the Role
Tax Exempt / Government Entities (TE/GE) is a business unit within the IRS. Positions are available in TEGE – Exempt Organizations and Government Entities, Exempt Organizations, Rulings & Agreements, Areas 3 & 5.
Federal experience is not required. Experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or through Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full‑time work; part‑time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year and indicate number of hours worked per week on your resume.
Required QualificationsYou must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience / Education – GS‑05You must have 1 year of specialized experience at an equivalent GS‑04 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience can include:
researching and processing financial documents, reviewing information, determining corrective action on accounts, researching missing or unclear accounting information, and reviewing financial documents submitted for completeness.
Or you may substitute education for specialized experience:
four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university.
Or you may qualify by a combination of experience and education; options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
Specialized Experience – GS‑06You must have 1 year of specialized experience at an equivalent GS‑05 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience can include:
interactions with the public analyzing tax or accounting issues; analyzing and resolving problems; adjusting accounts; providing information on financial issues.
You must have 1 year of specialized experience at an equivalent GS‑06 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience can include:
bookkeeping or accounting positions; interactions with the public analyzing tax or accounting problems; resolving high‑conflict differences using established guidelines; interactions with customers in person, in writing, or by telephone; interpreting account information to address various issues.
- Time After Competitive Appointment (TACA): Current civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since their latest non‑temporary appointment from a competitive referral certificate.
- Time In Grade (TIG): For positions above GS‑05, applicants must meet applicable time‑in‑grade requirements. One year at the next lower grade level is required for the grade applied. For GS‑05, applicants cannot advance to GS‑05 if they have held GS‑02 in the past 52 weeks. There is no TIG restriction for GS‑02, GS‑03, or GS‑04 positions.
