Position Overview

A growing residential construction company is seeking a hands-on Chief Financial Officer / VP of Finance to oversee all financial aspects of the organization. This executive will serve as a strategic partner to ownership while managing the day-to-day financial operations of the business. Given the size and growth stage of the company, the ideal candidate will be comfortable operating as a hybrid CFO, Controller, and VP of Finance, balancing strategic leadership with tactical execution.

The successful candidate will oversee a small accounting and administrative team while driving financial planning, reporting, cash flow management, profitability analysis, operational improvements, and long-term business strategy. Industry experience within homebuilding, residential construction, or a closely related sector is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all financial operations including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Develop and execute financial strategies that support company growth and profitability objectives.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages to ownership.
  • Manage banking relationships, financing activities, and capital planning initiatives.
  • Oversee job costing, project profitability analysis, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax requirements, and regulatory obligations.
  • Establish and improve financial controls, policies, and operational processes.
  • Partner with ownership and operational leaders to provide financial insights and strategic recommendations.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting and administrative staff.
  • Support business planning, risk management, and long-term growth initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA, CMA, MBA, or equivalent advanced credential preferred.
  • Significant finance leadership experience within residential construction, homebuilding, or a related industry.
  • Proven success in a senior finance role with responsibility for both strategic and operational finance functions.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, WIP schedules, and project-based financial management.
  • Experience managing small teams within entrepreneurial or growth-oriented organizations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and business partnering skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of long tenure and career stability with previous employers.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a hands-on leadership role while contributing strategically to executive decision-making.
