A leading international infrastructure and construction company is seeking a highly experienced Finance Director (CFO) to support its expanding portfolio of complex infrastructure projects. The selected candidate will play a key leadership role in driving financial strategy, ensuring strong governance, and overseeing financial performance across all phases of project delivery. Working in close collaboration with executive leadership and multidisciplinary teams, the Finance Director will support strategic decision-making, optimize financial outcomes, and contribute to the successful execution of projects in a dynamic, performance-driven environment.
MissionThe Finance Director (CFO) is responsible for leading and overseeing all financial activities across large-scale heavy civil construction projects. The role ensures strong financial governance, accurate reporting, effective cost control, and strategic financial planning throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities- Lead the financial strategy for construction projects, ensuring alignment with project objectives and corporate financial policies.
- Act as a strategic financial advisor to senior management and project leadership.
- Support long-term business planning, financial forecasting, and capital allocation for complex infrastructure projects.
- Oversee project budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and timely information.
- Monitor financial performance, including cost control, margins, cash flow, and profitability.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle and propose mitigation or optimization actions.
- Support project controls and commercial teams with financial analysis, trends, and performance reviews.
- Ensure robust cost tracking, variance analysis, and financial control procedures are in place.
- Provide financial support to contract and commercial management activities, including variations, claims, and dispute-related analyses when required.
- Review and challenge financial assumptions, estimates, and projections for ongoing projects and new opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, corporate policies, and internal control requirements.
- Prepare and present financial reports to executive management, corporate finance, and stakeholders.
- Maintain strong financial governance and oversight across projects, joint ventures, and partner structures.
- Coordinate audit processes and ensure transparency and accuracy of financial information.
- Lead cash flow forecasting, working capital management, and liquidity planning.
- Coordinate funding requirements, guarantees, bonds, and banking relationships in collaboration with corporate treasury.
- Oversee billing, collections, and payment processes to ensure healthy cash positions.
- Provide financial leadership during bid and tender phases, including pricing review, financial risk assessment, and profitability analysis.
- Support the development of bid strategies from a financial and commercial perspective.
- Review financial models, assumptions, and sensitivities for major proposals.
- Lead, develop, and mentor finance and accounting teams across projects.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the finance function.
- Coordinate closely with corporate finance, tax, legal, and audit teams to ensure consistency and alignment.
- Act as the primary financial interface with clients, partners, joint venture stakeholders, auditors, and external advisors.
- Ensure financial alignment, transparency, and effective collaboration within partner and consortium environments.
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA or equivalent is a plus.
- A minimum of 15 years’ experience in senior financial roles within project-based or construction-related environments.
- Strong experience in financial leadership within large-scale infrastructure or construction projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage financial strategy in complex project environments, including joint ventures and P3 structures.
- Large-scale heavy civil infrastructure projects (highways, bridges, transit, rail, tunneling, or similar).
- Public-Private Partnership (P3) projects, including Design-Build-Finance (DBF) and Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Maintain (DBFOM) models.
- Design-Build and alternative delivery projects, involving complex financial structures and multi-stakeholder environments.
- Projects involving joint ventures, consortiums, and concessionaire structures.
- Experience overseeing financial management on projects exceeding $500M in value (or comparable scale and complexity).
- Advanced financial management and reporting expertise, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls.
- Strong knowledge of project finance, including cash flow modeling, working capital management, and funding structures.
