Tax Principal

Overview

Baker Tilly is a leading global advisory, tax and assurance firm with a strong presence in major U.S. regions including Houston. This role invites a Tax Principal to lead and grow the Houston market, delivering industry-focused tax advisory and compliance services to middle‑market clients and expanding the firm’s client base.

• Lead Baker Tilly’s tax services providing federal tax compliance and consulting to commercial clients.
• Serve as a trusted tax business advisor and lead client relationships on day‑to‑day tax matters across middle‑market to multinational companies.
• Consult on technical matters and special projects in corporate and flow‑through taxation, accounting methods, and ASC
  740.
• Research tax matters, respond to IRS and other tax authority inquiries, and make recommendation decisions.
• Coordinate with specialty tax practices on complex matters in state and local, high net‑worth, international, research and development, credits and incentives areas.
• Oversee federal and individual tax‑planning responsibilities, review complex research on a wide range of business transaction issues.
• Provide recommendations for business and process improvements based on client operations and objectives.
• Manage client engagement staffing, billing and collections, and ensure profitability targets are met.
• Network and build strong internal and external relationships to acquire new clients, projects, and revenue.
• Participate in requests for proposals to pursue additional clients/services for the firm.
• Collaborate with service line leadership to develop tax service market positioning, branding, strategy, and messaging.
• Invest in personal and firm‑wide professional development and support the growth of team members, including recruitment efforts.
• Represent the firm at community events, firm functions, and other relevant meetings.

• Bachelor’s Degree required;
  Master’s or advanced degree desirable.
• CPA or JD required.
• Fifteen (15)+ years of experience providing federal tax compliance and consulting services in a professional services firm; industry experience is a plus.
• Five (5)+ years of supervisory experience, mentoring and counseling associates.
• Strong management, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, project management, and communication skills.
• Ability to lead and supervise others, provide exceptional client service, and maintain high ethical standards.
• Commitment to continuous learning, sense of urgency, and quality with timely completion of projects.
• Highly developed software and Microsoft Suite skills.
