A growing residential construction company is seeking a hands-on Chief Financial Officer / VP of Finance to oversee all financial aspects of the organization. This executive will serve as a strategic partner to ownership while managing the day-to-day financial operations of the business. Given the size and growth stage of the company, the ideal candidate will be comfortable operating as a hybrid CFO, Controller, and VP of Finance, balancing strategic leadership with tactical execution.
The successful candidate will oversee a small accounting and administrative team while driving financial planning, reporting, cash flow management, profitability analysis, operational improvements, and long-term business strategy. Industry experience within homebuilding, residential construction, or a closely related sector is required.
Key Responsibilities include leading all financial operations including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management; developing and executing financial strategies that support company growth and profitability objectives; preparing and presenting monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages to ownership; managing banking relationships, financing activities, and capital planning initiatives; overseeing job costing, project profitability analysis, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting; ensuring compliance with accounting standards, tax requirements, and regulatory obligations;
establishing and improving financial controls, policies, and operational processes; partnering with ownership and operational leaders to provide financial insights and strategic recommendations; supervising and mentoring accounting and administrative staff; and supporting business planning, risk management, and long-term growth initiatives.
Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA, CMA, MBA, or equivalent advanced credential preferred; significant finance leadership experience within residential construction, homebuilding, or a related industry; proven success in a senior finance role with responsibility for both strategic and operational finance functions; strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, WIP schedules, and project-based financial management;
experience managing small teams within entrepreneurial or growth-oriented organizations; excellent leadership, communication, and business partnering skills; demonstrated track record of long tenure and career stability with previous employers; and ability to operate effectively in a hands-on leadership role while contributing strategically to executive decision-making.
