Investment Banking Associate – Financial Institutions Group

Citizens is seeking an experienced Investment Banking Associate to join our Financial Institutions Group (FIG) to support the team’s senior professionals in client advisory and execute capital markets and M&A transactions.

This position is preferred to be based in Atlanta, GA, alternatively in New York, NY.

Responsibilities
  • Work with senior bankers in Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets, and M&A product groups, Sponsor Coverage and Corporate Banking relationship teams to develop new business ideas, pitch strategies or transaction financing scenarios to help corporate clients and financial sponsors achieve their financial and strategic objectives.
  • Perform extensive financial statement modeling for a variety of transaction scenarios.
  • Conduct comprehensive company and industry research.
  • Analyze financial model output and client information to prioritize data and present conclusions for discussion.
  • Coordinate with senior bankers to provide indicative transaction structure and pricing guidance based on financial model and comparable transaction analysis.
  • Prepare pitch materials for client meetings.
  • Manage transaction screening and credit/underwriting approval processes and all required documentation, analysis, and meetings.
  • Play a key leadership role throughout the transaction execution process.
  • Participate in accounting, business, and legal due diligence.
  • Work with legal counsel and clients/financial sponsors to draft and negotiate legal documentation.
  • Prepare detailed transaction marketing materials including confidential information memoranda, ratings agency presentations, and lender/roadshow management presentations.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of direct experience in M&A, Corporate Finance, Leveraged Finance or Capital Markets.
  • Proven experience in FIG, particularly in Specialty Finance, is strongly preferred.
  • Strong persuasive, organized, and articulate communication skills.
  • Ability to function in a flat organization, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work effectively as an individual and as part of multiple teams.
  • Independent and consistent follow‑up, acting as project manager on most assignments.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills with solid understanding of financial statements, financial modeling, and company or industry analysis.
  • Self‑starting team player who can think strategically and excel in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial, challenging work environment.
  • High degree of maturity and integrity with a positive and hardworking attitude.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to immediately contribute to the group based on experience and transfer best practices and knowledge.
  • Full command of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Experience with related financial services software including S&P CapitalIQ, S&P Leveraged Commentary, Advantage Data, Bloomberg, Thomson One, Thomson Loan Pricing Connector, Fact Set, etc.
Education, Certifications, and Other Credentials
  • Undergraduate degree with a strong academic record from a leading university.
  • MBA a strong plus but not required given level of experience.
  • Attendance in a formal investment or corporate banking training program preferred but not required.
  • FINRA Series 79 (or
    7) and Series 63 and/or willingness to obtain licenses within required timeframe.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $175,000 – $225,000 per year, plus an opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. Actual pay is based on various factors including but not limited to work location and relevant skills and experience.
