Company Description Hope Atlanta is one of Georgia’s longest-standing nonprofit organizations focused on ending homelessness and hunger in local communities. The organization provides specialized programs for veterans, people living with HIV/AIDS, individuals and families experiencing food insecurity, and people at risk of homelessness. Hope Atlanta helps clients secure housing and essential resources to achieve self-sufficiency.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Director of Finance will lead the organization’s annual budgeting, planning, and financial forecasting processes while overseeing daily financial operations. This role will prepare accounting entries for CFO review and approval, develop budget-to-actual reports, and collaborate on grants management to ensure grant funds are appropriately leveraged. The Senior Director will also supervise Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, ensure monthly bank reconciliations are completed accurately and on time, and lead the monthly financial close process.

Following each close, this position will prepare and present financial statements to the CFO for review and analysis.

Key Performance Indicators:

The KPI’s below are key indicators of successful performance in this role:

1.Execute daily financial operation in an effective and efficient manner

2.Timely notification to the CFO of potential operations obstacles with recommendations

3.Prepare and present timely and accurate financial reports to Directors and Leadership

4.Staff coaching and development

5.Co-develop and maintain critical KPIs for the department and organization

6.Ensure grant billing align with accounting system

7.Successful and timely monthly close and presentation of financial reports

Core Functions:

  • Oversee all financial operations processes
  • Partner with Director of Grant management and Sr. Directors for all grant management and reporting
  • Collaborate with CFO on all forecast cycles for all revenue and expenses
  • Supervise finance and billing staff
  • Lead the maintenance of the financial systems
  • Initiate and recommend all needed training and system improvements
  • Utilize financial analysis to inform recommendations and decisions
  • Partner with CFO to develop appropriate financial KPIs for the department and organization
  • Lead the annual financial audit and 990 process
  • Define, document and develop processes and procedures
  • Support the CFO and provide insight and answers to financial matters and concerns
  • Actively participate in team meetings and provide solution-based ideas.
  • Interact professionally and transparently with internal and external stakeholders

Hard

Skills:

The Senior Director of Finance should possess above-average financial acumen, GL navigation, understand GAAP accounting as it relates to nonprofits financial operations, and understand grant management, budget development and reporting. The role also requires exemplary understanding of financial operations with excellent excel and accounting systems skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, MBA preferred
  • Minimum of (7) seven years’ experience in finance with at least (3) three years in a leadership capacity.
  • Experience working in the nonprofit sector and with government grant funding is required. Must know and understand allocation methodologies and Fund Accounting.
