The Nursing Home Life Safety & Environment of Care Regulatory Consultant serves in a non-practicing, advisory consulting role providing expert-level regulatory guidance specific to skilled nursing facilities (nursing homes). This role supports survey preparedness, survey response, remediation, and sustained compliance related to life safety, physical environment, and environment of care requirements.
The consultant provides both on‑site and virtual consulting services, including remote training and regulatory education, and brings deep understanding of CMS nursing home regulations and survey processes. This position supports company‑developed, proprietary programs and does not perform hands‑on facility operations or repairs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Gain and maintain a comprehensive understanding of all company services, including their features, benefits, and value propositions. Articulate how the company’s services align with client goals and deliver measurable value.
- Provide expert guidance on CMS nursing home life safety and environment of care regulatory requirements, including surveyor focus areas and enforcement trends.
- Advise nursing home leadership on survey preparedness strategies related to the physical environment, life safety systems, and environment of care.
- Support interpretation of survey findings, citations, and Statements of Deficiencies (SODs) related to life safety and environment of care.
- Provide consultative support for remediation strategies, corrective action planning, and development of Plans of Correction (POCs).
- Serve as a regulatory subject matter expert for internal teams supporting nursing home consulting, education, and quality initiatives.
- All guidance is advisory and aligned with company‑approved nursing home programs and resources.
- Conduct on‑site nursing home walkthroughs and regulatory assessments focused on life safety and environment of care readiness.
- Provide virtual consulting support through document review, remote assessments, and structured regulatory guidance sessions.
- Identify regulatory risks and compliance gaps through observation, record review, and discussion with facility leadership.
- Provide consultative feedback to support immediate remediation and sustained compliance.
- Travel to nursing homes and related engagements as required.
- Deliver training, education, and technical assistance to nursing home leadership and staff related to life safety and environment of care regulatory requirements.
- Provide education focused on survey preparedness, survey response, and remediation strategies.
- Support nursing homes in understanding regulatory expectations, common citation patterns, and documentation considerations.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure training and education are consistent with company programs and messaging.
- Contribute nursing‑home‑specific regulatory insight to the refinement and validation of company‑developed programs related to life safety, environment of care, and survey readiness.
- Review training and educational content to ensure alignment with CMS regulatory intent, survey protocols, and enforcement standards.
- Provide expert input without independently developing, implementing, or disclosing proprietary methodologies.
- Participate in expert panels, webinars, conferences, and professional education focused on nursing home life safety, environment of care, and regulatory compliance.
- Represent the organization in public forums as a nursing‑home‑focused regulatory expert.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure external messaging reflects current regulatory expectations and company offerings.
- Serve as a trusted regulatory advisor to internal consulting, program, and leadership teams.
- Support internal understanding of emerging CMS nursing home guidance, survey trends, and enforcement priorities related to life safety and environment of care.
- Contribute to thought leadership initiatives while maintaining confidentiality of proprietary program design.
