Substance Abuse Outpatient Clinician

Under general supervision of the Clinical Manager, the clinician assesses, screens, and counsels clients in an outpatient substance use program to enhance, meet, or restore a client’s functioning capacity. The clinician works with a multi-disciplinary team that provides evidence-based individual and group counseling and psychoeducation to individuals with substance use, mental health, and co-occurring mental health problems. The clinician develops client-driven treatment plans based on clients’ treatment goals, completes assessments, manages a caseload, monitors client’s urine drug screen results, and conducts substance use assessments.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assesses/Screens Cases

  • Performs biopsychosocial assessments focusing on substance use needs.
  • Documents in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Utilizes information from multiple sources to aid development of client-driven treatment plans.
  • Assesses and documents the client’s responses to skill‑based interventions, modifying interventions within agency timelines.
  • Utilizes specific assessment tools such as URICA in evaluation of the client.
  • Applies sound clinical judgement in the development of client goals and treatment planning.
  • Obtains clinical supervision monthly and seeks additional supervision as necessary.

Counsels Individuals, Groups, And Significant Others

  • Creates therapeutic relationships with clients and families/significant others.
  • Conducts individual, family, group counseling, and educational sessions using evidence-based interventions, such as MI, CBT, DBT, or Seeking Safety.
  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge in mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorder treatment.
  • Demonstrates documented clinical proficiency in client engagement, interviewing and recording.

Develops and Participates in Case Management/Care Planning

  • Creates, communicates, and coordinates treatment plans.
  • Demonstrates expertise in care/planning through objectives, goals, and specificity of plan.
  • Serves as a resource to staff with up-to-date knowledge of Claratel Behavioral Health and community, regional, and state resources.
  • Assists treatment team in problem solving regarding needed resources for clients.
  • Ensures timely communication with providers per policy and procedure.
  • Documents referrals, discharges, resources, or other issues for problem resolution or utilization as required in agency policy.
  • Might serve as liaison on community resource activities, such as peer support meetings or legal entities.

Professional

  • Maintains certification/licensure.
  • Actively participates in clinical supervision or consultation.
  • Engages in behavioral health educational initiatives.
  • Seeks continuing education to meet current clinical needs.
Skill, Competency And Education And/Or Licensure Requirements

Current Georgia licensure (LAPC, LPC, LMSW, LCSW) with at least 1 year of work experience in substance use counseling, including case management, outreach, prevention, education, and treatment. Ability to provide curriculum/evidence-based treatment groups, such as the MATRIX Model, DBT, or Seeking Safety. Computer proficient and able to multi-task.

INTER-RELATIONSHIPS
