Are you passionate about helping individuals who have been adversely impacted by gun violence? Join our team as a Forensic Peer Mentor. Use your lived experience to provide compassionate, hands‑on support to victims and perpetrators of gun violence, working with all ages and facilitating skills groups.
What You’ll Do- Provide non‑clinical professional and specialized support services to clients navigating the intersections between the Criminal Justice, Behavioral Health, and Community Resource systems.
- Assume a perspective that everyone with lived experience has the capacity to recover and live meaningful lives in their chosen communities.
- Use a person‑centered approach to engage justice‑system involved clients with mental health, substance use, and co‑occurring conditions.
- Deliver trauma‑informed, culturally competent direct services.
- Act as a role model and share problem‑solving and recovery‑focused skills.
- Establish mutual relationships with peers to help them regain control over their lives and recovery process.
- Meet with, interview, and observe clients, assessing needs, identifying barriers to community resources, and developing strategies to overcome them.
- Provide support including linkage and assistance with transportation plans to facilitate access to treatment and supportive services.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Clinical Director.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Certified Peer Specialist (CPS-MH or CPS-AD) or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- Lived experience with mental health or addiction recovery.
- Preferred: 1+ year of experience in behavioral health, case management, or advocacy.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and technology skills.
- Reliable transportation and a valid GA driver’s license.
Must have the ability to work with an interdisciplinary team and clients. Able to maintain ongoing working relationships with community partners.
Working ConditionsIn‑office and community settings. Comfortable with use of computer, telephone, fax, copier, and scanning machine. Experience with justice organizations and settings, including court, is beneficial.
Needed AttributesTeam player, organized, dependable, efficient, responsible, disciplined, and self‑motivated. Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse populations.
