Job Summary

The Mental Health Technician II (MHT) provides services to people who experience serious mental illness. This includes providing group and/or individual training on a variety of topics including social and coping skills and self-management. Provides service coordination and or linkage to  that meet the needs of the individual patient/consumer and engages in crisis prevention and management as necessary. May work in the hospital, outpatient clinic, or community settings, including support provided in the home, at work/school, or in shelters.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Sciences, including Criminal Justice, Cultural Studies, Anthropology, or Sociology is required. (In lieu of degree in Behavioral Science, will accept bachelor's degree in nonrelated field, along with six (6) years of comparable job experience, with one (1) year of experience with the SPMI and/or Addictive Disease population, preferably in a full-time status.)

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience, with one (1) year of experience with the SPMI and/or Addictive Disease population, preferably in a full-time status is required.

  • Basic Life Support (
    BLS
    ) Certification from American Heart Association (
    AHA
    ) is required.

  • Prefer candidates hold Certification in one of the following:
    Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) or Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification, or Certified Psychosocial Rehabilitation Professional (CPRP) from the United States Psychosocial Rehabilitation Association (USPRA).

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides strong case management support, including assisting with psychosocial needs assessments, care coordination, discharge planning, and linkage to community-based behavioral health and social service resources.

  • Collaborates with licensed clinicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care and follow-up for high-risk patients.

  • Utilizes in-depth knowledge of Atlanta metro community resources, including housing programs, outpatient behavioral health providers, crisis services, substance use treatment programs, and social support agencies to facilitate appropriate referrals.

  • Supports patients with complex psychosocial needs, including homelessness, co-occurring disorders, and limited support systems.

  • Documents patient interactions and resource coordination activities accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrates experience in behavioral health case management within an acute care or community mental health setting is strongly preferred.

  • Established familiarity with the Atlanta safety-net system and community-based service providers is strongly preferred.
