Precepts new staff and students, masters concepts of hemodynamics, should have intermediate knowledge of x-ray equipment and troubleshooting. Able to assist with circulating role as needed, troubleshoot imaging equipment collaborating with biomedical engineers for service, participate in procedural charging, maintain supply management. Able to act quickly under emergency situations, discuss with physician the plan of action and assist with any high-risk procedures.
Cross‑trains as needed to support departmental needs, monitors cases, understands and works with x-ray system, including panning table and recognizing different angles. Manages access site including proper removal of sheath, assessment of hematoma and knowledge of hematoma management. Understands concepts of radiation safety, knowledgeable in coronary anatomy and recognizing different types of lesions, basic knowledge of supply features, adherence to sterile technique, and effective communication with team, patients, families, and medical staff.
In Cath Lab, assists in procedures such as complex PCI including CTO, multiple wire exchanges, long wires, OTW balloons, specialty devices such as rotablater, CSI, laser, shockwave, may participate in structural heart cases, troubleshoot emergency equipment (balloon pump and ventricular assist device). Assists in scrub role for right & left heart catheterization, PCIs and STEMIs. In EP Lab, assists in advanced EP procedures, lead extractions, complex ablations, stims independently, assists in scrub role for cardiac ablations, device implants, ECDs, generator changes, loop recorders.
- Registered as ARRT with CI credential or RCIS or RCES
- Licensed AEMT, National Registered Paramedic (NRP), graduate of accredited school of radiologic technology, or accredited school of cardiovascular technology, or academic program in health sciences
- Must become registered as an ARRT with post primary category of cardiac interventional radiography or RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) or RCES within 12 months of hire or promotion as a condition of continued employment
