Key Responsibilities
  • Prepares specimens and analyzes them using electron microscopy (EM) and associated techniques.
  • Orients, demonstrates, and assists staff in the performance of electron microscopy procedures and techniques.
  • Validates test results.
  • Refers abnormal or unexpected results to the appropriate individual.
  • Assists in the development and execution of new procedures and techniques.
  • Calibrates, operates, performs preventive maintenance, and troubleshoots problems related to electron microscope and other lab instruments.
  • Prepares reagents and assists in ordering and inventorying lab supplies.
  • May prepare special stains.
  • Collects specimens and identifies the portion of tissue that will yield diagnosis.
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of tissue for analysis.
  • Performs analysis of tissue specimens.
  • Performs specialized or advanced techniques and required calculations.
  • Performs electron micrography screening and related data acquisition.
  • Carries out image analysis and prepares electron micrographs for records and publications.
  • Collaborates in the preparation of electron microscopy data for conferences and teaching.
  • Assists in scientific writing and in developing presentations.
  • Maintains accurate and complete documentation of case reports, electron micrographs, microscopic slides and tissue samples to comply with regulations.
  • Prepares required paperwork for accessioning, billing, and evaluation of diagnostic cases and funded research.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Two years of electron microscopy experience.

Position tasks are required to be performed in‑person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
